Business Membership/Sponsorship Appeal Launched November 19

11/19/2013

You may recall that Bike Walk Connecticut formalized its business/organizational membership structure a few months ago.  That information has been on the website for several months.  In consultation with the Membership & Revenue Developmment Committee, I recently completed a Sponsorship Opportunities document to accompany it.  This is modeled on Local Motion's work.

The idea behind making them companion pieces is twofold:  1) to solicit sponsorships at the end of the calendar year for the next year, when businesses are setting their charitable and marketing budgets, and 2) to present a more business-like image by laying out our sponsorship asks as a cohesive package, rather than as successive requests for different initiatives.

You can find the Membership and Sponsorship Opportunities documents on our website at Join > Business Membership.

Pasted below is the text of the initial message that went out by email to various businesses today:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear xxxxx:

We believe Connecticut needs to be a better, safer place to bike and walk, and we bet you do too. So we invite you to join Bike Walk Connecticut as a business member, a sponsor or both.

Please take a minute to look over our Business and Organizational Membership Opportunities and our Sponsorship Opportunities for 2014, and let us know what role you'd like to play in helping us make Connecticut a better, safer place to bike and walk.

Simply put, more members and sponsors means we can deliver more of our mission: that means more bike education classes for children and adults; more promotion of bike commuting; more support for businesses, communities and universities that want to become bike-friendly; and more complete streets implementation.

As a business member or program sponsor, you'll help us get more Connecticut residents active, get around more by bike or by foot, and advocate for
more sidewalks and safer streets. We'll all be healthier for it, and we'll have a cleaner, greener Connecticut to enjoy now and for future generations.

As DECD's Kip Bergstrom put it last week at our annual dinner, "Connecticut's economic development depends on  Bike Walk Connecticut succeeding at what we do."  A competitive economy needs places that are bike-friendly and walk-friendly.  We have some work do on that score.  Your support will help us make bikeable, walkable communities a priority for Connecticut.

We'd love to get you on board.  Please scroll down for details or visit our website at www.bikewalkct.org.

Questions?  I'd love to hear from you.  Feel free to contact me at kelly.kennedy@bikewalkct.org.

Thank you!
