A volunteer on the Discover Hartford planning committee asks and suggests: "How do we get the board more engaged? Give each board member a goal of securing 20 registrations. Hard to measure, but could assume 10% of the folks they contact register. If they contact 200 people each, that would count. FB invites. Email distribution. Send out info to clubs they are involved with. We've had goals like this for past tours and events." Engaging your social networks has more impact than you may think! We've seen an uptick in tour registrations after MaryEllen's emails to her personal contacts.
As of late day on August 29, we have 76 registrants for this year's tour. Last year we had 97 at the end of August, with a total of 355 registrants by tour day, September 29. This year's tour is a week earlier, so please start spreading the word--early and often! Thanks! Wondering what's ahead for Bike Walk Connecticut?

Repost of the e-mail I sent you all in case you missed it! - Tara Hello All! I hope you all are having a great week! MaryEllen asked me to forward the Board marketing materials for Discover Hartford for you to share with your colleagues, friends, business contacts, family, etc. This week MaryEllen has been sending personal e-mails to her contact list to register for the event. Since she has been doing that I have seen an increase in registrations, so it does work! Even if you can send out five e-mails to people you know that you think may be interested can help us greatly! I've attached a flyer that we are using to market to individuals. (UConn Health Center already agreed to make copies and leave out at their Bike to Work event this Friday). Also I spoke with an individual running a cycling event in Glastonbury on September 7 that will let us leave out flyers for the event there. (As a side note, I'm currently working on posters, so if you think you can post one at your place of employment or business, let me know and I will notify you when the posters are printed and available.) Also attached is our sponsorship kit. We have a good solid group of sponsors, but if there are any other businesses you know that would be a good sponsor please don't hesitate and ask them. As a reminder, we are trying to fill up some exhibitors spaces at the event. Those who exhibit will be able to stay during the day at Bushnell Park and also reach the EnvisionFest attendees. Exhibiting is $250 for businesses; $75 for smaller Hartford-based businesses and $50 for nonprofit organizations. Personally, I would like to see us get 15 plus exhibitors. Spread the word out to your contacts! This is a great inexpensive way to reach new clients, consumers, etc. The link for exhibiting is at: http://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/event?oeidk=a07e80c29yy88d62984&llr=5vvygggab There is one other piece of Discover Hartford news I want to share with everyone. CT Parent Magazine/ MyKidsFan.com posted an article I wrote up on Discover Hartford. It is featured on the home page of their site. Here is the link: http://www.mykidsfan.com//MyKidsFan/August-2013/Exploration-of-Hartford-by-Bicycle-with-the-Entire-Family/ Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you, Tara ![]()
