Club/Advocacy Organization Name: BIKE WALK CONNECTICUT
Contact Name: KELLY KENNEDY

Organization Type: Advocacy Organization (AO)

Do you organize any rides or time trials where no participation fee applies (i.e. "club" rides)? No
Note: If you indicate your AO does not organize any rides or time trials where no participation fee applies your AO will not have any coverage for these activities. If your plans change, you can add coverage by scheduling and paying for a special event.

Please note that any ride for which a fee is charged must be added as a Special Event PRIOR TO the ride in order for General Liability and Participant Accident coverage to apply. Premium is based on the number of participants in the Special Event and is due within two weeks after the ride takes place. Special Events can be added only after you have purchased coverage for your AO and can be added online.

If yes, how many "club" rides or time trials do you organize during the policy period?

On average, how many riders participate in "club rides" and time trials?

Organization Management - Bicycle or Advocacy Organization has the following:
1 or more full-time employees
Year-round office space - Leased/Rented
Please note the League insurance program does not provide employment-type coverages such as Worker’s Compensation or Employee Benefits Liability coverage. The League does, however, offer Employment Practices Liability coverage under its optional D&O program available for separate purchase online.
Please note the League insurance program does not provide property coverage. You will need to work with a local agent to cover your buildings or office space, contents, computers, etc.

Bicycle Education Course
Important! For the purposes of answering this question, bicycle education course means "a program of instruction focused on bicycle safety and related topics in which the attendees sign up, enroll, or register by name." If you do not organize any events that meet this specific definition, you should answer "DOES NOT" even if your organization conducts other types of bicycle safety-related activities.

Note, if you indicate you DO NOT organize courses that meet the above definition and decide to do so at a later date, you will need to contact American Specialty as coverage will not apply to such courses.

Our Club/Advocacy Organziation: DOES organize bicycle education courses

Do any of the courses include an on-bike component?
Yes
Do you exclusively use LCI's to teach your courses? No

* Note: If you indicate you DO NOT organize bicycle education courses you will not have insurance for such activities even if you later decide to conduct them.

Other Activities

Tours - Do you organize or operate any tours that are commercial in nature? No
By commercial in nature, we mean it is an activity whose sole or chief emphasis is on deriving a profit.

Racing - Do you organize or conduct any bicycle racing activities? No

Bike Refurbishment – Does your organization engage in any activities or programs involving bike refurbishment? No

Bike Repair Services – Does your organization maintain a facility or provide services where bicycle owners can bring their bicycles to be repaired and/or bicycle owners can bring their bicycles to make their own repairs? No

Do you promote or organize Safe Routes to School activities? Yes
Your organization has liability coverage with respect to your advocacy efforts in terms of promoting the concept of a Safe Routes to School (or similar) Program. Please be aware, however, that if you are involved in organizing a program, such activities are outside the scope of the League program and are not covered.

Non-Bicycling Recreational Activities – Does your club organize non-bicycle-related activities (other than regular meetings or a picnic/banquet) such as hiking, cross-country skiing, kayaking, etc.? No

Bike Rentals – Does your organization rent bicycles to the public? Yes
Please note the League Program does not include coverage for bicycle rental programs.

Independent Contractors – Does your organization hire independent contractors to provide services on behalf of the organization? Yes
Please note the League Program does not cover independent contractors as individuals. While your organization would have liability coverage if brought into a covered claim as a result of an independent contractor’s actions, the independent contractor himself or herself is NOT extended coverage under the program, should have his or her own source of liability coverage, and should provide your organization with evidence of such. If, however, the individual is a League Cycling Instructor (LCI) or regional trainer, he or she is covered through the League any time he or she is acting in the capacity of a League Cycling Instructor or Seminar Coach during Smart Cycling seminars and classes conducted in accordance with League procedures.

Trail Maintenance – Does your organization have any involvement with trail maintenance (i.e. trash pick-up, trimming vegetation, etc.), construction, and/or design? No

NON-OWNED AND HIRED AUTO LIABILITY (protects your organization in the event of a claim resulting from a vehicle being driving in the course of your organization's activities). This coverage must be applied for and purchased separately. If you are interested, please contact American Specialty to request a proposal. An application will be required, and coverage will be underwritten specifically for the individual club. Certain minimum requirements will apply (drivers must be 25 or older and have a valid drivers license; primary auto insurance must be in place for any nonowned autos).

DIRECTORS & OFFICERS AND EMPLOYMENT PRACTICES LIABILITY (covers legal costs, judgments and settlements resulting from suits and other legal proceedings brought against the entity's Board of Directors, Officers or the insured entity itself for allegations of wrongful acts, errors, and omissions). This coverage must be applied for and purchased separately. To learn more information about the League’s D&O program and/or to apply for coverage, please click the “Directors & Officers Insurance” link at www.amerspec.com/lab under the Purchase Insurance section

Please contact Rene Waterson if you have questions regarding the League Insurance Program.

Insurance - Surplus Lines Policy for Office Property Coverage

7/24/2013

The following information is intended for archives purposes.  There's been some confusion about which p
Memo

To:  Tucker Sinatro (by email to tgsinatro@gmail.com)
From:  Kelly Kennedy
Re: Nonrenewal of surplus lines office property coverage
Date:  7/11/13

Tucker -
As we just discussed by phone, please do not renew our surplines lines liability and property policy.

Through the League of American Bicyclists and American Specialty, our  policy effective 2/1/13 now includes premises liability coverage for our leased office space. I confirmed this with the insurer by phone this morning.

To memorialize what you and I just discussed:

  • The property policy you obtained for us covered only office property damaged or destroyed by fire.
  • Loss of office property by theft was not covered by that policy.
  • Additionally, our bike trailer and bikes have never been insured under any policy obtained through your agency.
  • Accordingly, our trailer and bikes have been and continue to be self-insured.
  • Given the limitations of office property coverage, deductibles, depreciation rules, and the limited value of our donated office property, it makes sense not to renew our surplus lines office property coverage.
  • Therefore, by not renewing that office property policy, we are also self-insured with respect to all the contents of our office.

Thanks for your help.
