  • Stamford - A complete streets ordinance is under discussion in the City of Stamford. The ordinance was drafted with the help of the TriState Transportation Campaign, and sponsored by urban planner and City Rep. David Kooris.
  • West Hartford - Last month, West Hartford passed a resolution on traffic, pedestrian and cyclist safety.  Then it started putting up some good signs (see below).  Now the town passed a resolution to have a complete streets policy developed within 180 days.
  • Bethel - Advocates Dave and Marti Fine and Tom O'Brien (also Bike Walk CT members) organized others in the Danbury/Bethel area last month to urge DOT to add bike parking at the Bethel train station.  Parking for cars had DOT's attention, but bikes were forgotten.
  • CT has two new bike friendly businesses--Pratt & Whitney (Bronze) and Bicycles East (Glastonbury).  Congratulations!
  • Trinity College professors (and Bike Walk CT members) Johannes Evelein and Dario del Puppo are teaching a freshman seminar on Sustainability, Cycling and the City of Hartford.  Three of those students are working on a project with Bike Walk CT. Stay tuned for more.

It's great that Pratt is a bike friendly business. I have heard rumors that one of the biggest reasons that the bike path was never extended from Forbes Street to Main Street is because Pratt owns a large piece of the land adjacent to I-84 that the path would have to cut through, and Pratt won't allow it. It would be interesting to get to the heart of this, find out if it's true or false.
