Recognizing that biking and walking more and driving less will reduce the greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming and climate change, Bike Walk Connecticut was pleased to be a co-sponsor of the July 19 2013 press conference held in Hartford with Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy. Held during another scorching heat wave, the event drew a packed crowd of supporters. In 2010, transportation contributed approximately 27 percent of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions. Transportation is also the largest end-use source of greenhouse gases (including direct emissions and emissions from electricity use), and accounts for 45 percent of the net increase in total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions from 1990-2010.
