Bike Walk CT provided bike parking at Sailfest in New London this weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity and had lots of great conversations about biking and walking in CT. Thanks to Bill Lunn, Nancy Dunn, Alanna Readel, Marty Olsen, and Rob Bareiss for volunteering to staff at Sailfest.
Bike Walk Connecticut thanks the folks that visited our tent at the Coventry Farmers Market on Sunday, June 30! We enjoyed great conversation about bike/ped advocacy, bicycle education, upcoming events, and grocery-getting by bicycle!
We had a great turnout of families who joined Bike Walk CT, Early Childhood Collaborative of Southington, Southington Police Bike Patrol, and Bike New Britain at our second annual Bike Safe Southington on Friday evening.
The attendees enthusiastically participated in several event activities such as the "melon drop" demonstration, the "how slow can you go" race, and the bicycle part tagging competition.
Thanks to everyone for joining us at the Old State House in Hartford for Bike Walk CT's Bike To Work festivities on Friday. Special thanks to DEEP Commissioner Katie Dykes for cycling in from West Hartford, and presenting DEEP's goals and initiatives to the Bike To Work crowd. Thanks also to our exhibitors - Watch for Me CT, CTrides, CTtransit, Bike MS, BiCi Co. Community Bike Shop, and AAA (who provided a SAG vehicle for any cyclist needing assistance riding to or from the event).
Bike Walk Connecticut’s ‘Teach the Physical Education Teachers’ workshop held on Saturday, April 7, 2019 in Glastonbury provided educators with resources, tools and skills needed to implement and teach bicycle education to elementary school students. Many thanks to Ginny Hole and Ken Sek from South Windsor Walk & Wheel Ways for partnering with Bike Walk Connecticut to help teach this workshop. Thanks also to Glastonbury Parks & Recreation and the Glastonbury Public Schools for providing us a facility to conduct this event.
The workshop consisted of presentations, hands-on, in-class demonstrations, on-bike parking lot drills, and a group ride; in addition to simulations of instruction methods appropriate for elementary school students.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to making this workshop a success!
